Mary, Mother of Jesus
and My Mother
When Mary said “yes” to the will of God, she knew that the
saviour would be born through her. She didn’t stay at home but went to do a
loving thing. She went to stay with Elizabeth
and to serve her. When Jesus was born, he was not born in a big hospital but
was born in a humble stable. Mary could have asked God why her son was born
like this but no, she just accepted the will of God in her life. When Jesus was
presented in the temple, Simeon, the holy man was filled with the Holy Spirit
and exclaimed, “A sword will pierce through your soul”. This shows that Mary
kept the word which she gave God and she accepted all this as the will of God.
When Jesus was 12 years as every year they went for the Passover Feast to Jerusalem . As the feast
ended they started journeying home but Jesus stayed behind. Mary and Joseph
thought that Jesus would be with one of their relatives so they made a day’s
journey. Then they started searching for Jesus but they didn’t find Him. So
Mary and Joseph went back to Jerusalem .
This shows the relationship of Mary and Joseph. We see that Joseph didn’t say a
word to Mary. If we would have been in Mary’s place we would have started
fighting and arguing. After three days, they found Jesus in the temple. Mary
asked him the reason for his behaviour and Jesus replied, “Didn’t you’ll know
that I had to be in My Father’s house.” The reply seems hurting but Mary once
again kept silent and pondered over the words of her son, Jesus in her heart.
Mary must have not kept Jesus sitting as he was the Son of God but surely she
would have asked Jesus to lend a helping hand in the chores of the house. And
Jesus would have surely obeyed Mother Mary. So here in this we see how Mary
guided Jesus in His childhood and surely she will help, guide and protect us.
I’m reminded of an incident from my life, I remember Mother
Mary’s protection when I first met with an accident. Once I was cycling and I
had to cross a road but without looking to the left or right I banged into a
man with his motorbike from the other side. We fell. I fell quite a distance
from my cycle but I was not hurt badly. I just got a small wound on my leg, but
the man had got a gash on his leg. After this incident I hastened back home and
started praying the Rosary. I don’t know how I just started praying the Rosary
but at the back of my mind I said “Thank You Mother Mary for saving me and I
offer you this Rosary.” I would like to conclude with the words of Don Bosco,
“Have devotion to Mary and you will see what miracles are.”
