Call

Language of God is different. It goes beyond space and time where God is. God’s call was so strong that I just came along the path. It’s strange you gave up for a person whom you can’t see. Why am I here? When I see young boys and girls enjoying themselves, I wonder what I am doing. In this period of my philosophy I am trying to find it out. Vocation is seeking, finding, loving, searching Him. God uses you beyond your imagination. He made you for a definite purpose: To love Him, to serve Him and to be with Him forever.

We are living in a world that is torn. Youth want to be understood. I realize that I must deepen my faith if I am to help them. Why am I studying? I’m doing it for the young and to become a priest. Look with compassion – we are to be other Jesus’ in the world. Jeremiah 1:4-10. God’s extraordinary power brings a change. It’s not only knowledge but also your faith that counts. Receive the power and see how it changes you. I should be able to say ‘I know HIM’. I should be able to say to Jesus, ‘You know everything and I love you.’ Consecrated – set apart. I am called by Christ and all my strength is in Him. I am called for spiritual work. Ephesians 1:4-6; 2 Peter 1:10. Die in Faith – that’s the mystery of our faith. 1 Timothy 4:12-16. Strong mind and loving heart – me to be. Pray to Jesus. Be His witness.

Memories of Pain to Gain

What is pain? I can classify pain as physical and emotional. Physical pain is when we get a wound, cramps, muscle pull, etc. This pain generally happens suddenly and when its healed you tend to forget but if you see the mark of than wound at times you may remember but at times you may not. Let’s move to emotional pain. When a person does something wrong to another person or he does wrong to himself, that causes pain in his heart (I’m not talking about heart pains which is physical but the emotional one). This can be seen when a person cries, his mood goes off, sad, etc. This emotional pain leads to hurt and I’ve experienced a lot off then in my childhood. When in my childhood, my dad was really strict. May be he had to be that way at that time, but I felt it was too much. There are many hurts he caused me and I’m going to share a few.

I feel it’s because of my dad that I am now able to study well and do a lot of things well which is a positive point. Negatively, I try to play safe from people who act like my father. Sometimes I don’t do it purposely but its just inside me and I act and as my mother was good I tend to be good to people who act as a motherly figure. So I’ll write some incidents from my life.

Once I remember my father teaching me multiplication sums. I was very weak in math. He gave me some problems to solve and looking at them I got nervous. I couldn’t remember what to do and even my multiplication tables were bad. My mother would often come to my aid and so she approached me and began to help me. My father had gone out for some work and so grandma too helped me. When he returned, he posed new problems to me. I was unable to solve them. He began to fire me, knocking me over the head and then beating me. He made me do sums till I was able to do them. My memory fades here.

Another time, I had a drawing exam the following day and I couldn’t draw for nuts (now at least I’m a little better). He called me and asked me about the next day’s exam. I showed him the portion, which were of 3-4 drawings. He asked me to draw a coconut but I struggled. He began to shout at me, forcing me to draw nicely. I was really afraid. After the shouting I found it difficult to even grasp the pencil. He proceeded to beat me with a ruler first and then a belt. Finally I managed to complete the coconut and felt relieved. I had my supper and then dad called me back. He gave me the same page. The picture I had earlier drawn was rubbed out. He asked me to draw the picture again. My mother came to take me to sleep but dad acted rashly and beat her with the ruler. It had almost become 12 am. Grandma came to see what was going on because I was crying and dad was beating and shouting at me. On seeing her he stopped beating me but didn’t let me go to sleep. That night, I drew the coconut four times. Each time it was erased, the page was turned and I was asked to draw it again. I finally went to bed at 2 am. While I slept, dad came and applied ointment over the places where I had received blows. I rose up at 6 am the next morning with a headache. I didn’t feel like going to school but didn’t dare to say so. I had my breakfast and went.

The exam was a real surprise. Can you guess why? We had to draw a coconut! I had almost mastered it by then and so you can imagine my joy.

The experiences I had with my father are imprinted on my memory and while I didn’t appreciate the manner he taught me lessons, he nevertheless has helped me a lot. Even though my father was strict it had a reason behind it. I did not understand it then, but now I do. I am happy I had a father so strict who brought me to the right path. I owe a lot to him.

GRACE OF MERCY

The grace of mercy is flowing
Can anybody see it?
What an opportunity it is…
To make peace with  the God of mercy

The grace of mercy is raining
Some see it, some don’t
It’s all free
Just take it on thee

The grace of mercy is blowing
Can anybody feel it?
Cool, calm and silent it is..
Just stand and feel it.

Reflection of friendship

Am I being loved? Friends are the best friends given to us. Friendship both gives and receives and they appreciate more and more. What is my style of being a friend? Am I shy? Am I showing off? Am I too proud? Friendship is a bond that is shared lovingly. Friends make you feel at ease when you are in their presence. Selfishness --- we mostly think of our self than to think of others and thus it creates a problem in ones friendship do I have Christ as my friend and the center of my life?
Am I ready to lay down my life for my beloved friend for a good cause? This really doesn’t have a need to think of it just comes from within. E.g. you friend falls in the river you wont think should I jump or not. Ah! If you think so a question is there in your conscience is he my good friend suppose he’s your bests friend you wont think but you will jump and without thinking but if you don’t jump there’s selfishness in you. Where you think of your life I don’t say don’t do these things but it’s the need of the hour for your friend. Some people just jump without thinking if may be at times for the cause of humanity. We can take Jesus example one sold him for 30 pieces of silver, yet another denied him thrice the he doesn’t even know him and some ran away but Jesus didn’t break the friendship with his disciples. This is how our friendship should be. How is my friendship do I consider all as my friends or do I have some choosy friends? Am I open to others? Am I trustworthy to the secrets that my friends have told me? Am I a friend who allows my friend in doing wrong or do I stand for truth? That’s real good friends. I stand for truth even though I know that I will loose my friendship but I want the good of my friend. A friend helps to grow; he encourages me in doing a lot of things and to grab opportunities. Modern psychology says ‘a person should have at least one best friend whom one can open up ones heart and be intimate.

Mercy

Mercy! In this word I can see a jumbled three letter word, that is, ‘Cry’. Mercy, in another word for me, is a ‘cry’. “Be merciful just as your Father is                    Merciful” (Lk 6:36).This isn’t a very simple thing; it hurts and pains to show mercy to another  because in extreme pain we will surely be crying.  It is easy to say be merciful towards others but it’s quite a tough thing to do so. It calls for forgiving the person who has hurt you. I am reminded of Jesus on the cross who, all drenched in blood and crying, has the courage to say, ‘Father forgive them, they don’t know what they do.’ The pain experienced by Jesus as a human being was unbearable. Thus, he cried out but he showed mercy by forgiving his persecutors/tormentors. God’s mercy for us is a cry for us to change from our evil ways. Just as God forgives, shouldn’t we also forgive our fellow brethren?  We can identify ourselves with the prodigal son; God is  ready to embrace us with this mercy even though we run away from Him.

All of us make mistakes and our Merciful Father doesn’t fail to forgive us and give us     another chance. But then when it comes to offering forgiveness to another, we stand by our ego and refuse to forgive them. Instead, we wait for others to come and ask for forgiveness from us. How can we expect God to show mercy towards us when we ourselves don’t forgive and show mercy towards others? Jesus being sinless and innocent didn’t say a word when he was             condemned to death. When He was crucified He forgave His persecutors although He was sinless He took our sins upon Him.

Therefore, God’s mercy which is granted to us must produce in us a merciful heart. I can assure you, being merciful won’t be easy and simple. To be merciful one needs to feel the pain and hurt which makes a person cry and finally get over this hurt before forgiving one’s enemy. Our God, our creator and master has shown us by His example how to be merciful. Why don’t we do the same?  Being merciful must come from the heart. By being merciful and forgiving towards others there will be much peace on earth. In this extraordinary jubilee year mercy, let us pray to Him to fill us with His mercy so that we may become springs of mercy for all those around us.

Spousal Friendship

                                  Spousal Friendship

In a spousal friendship one needs to identify with the other person, which means; To know, understand and feel with the other person. It’s like the other person is a part of yourself. In a spousal friendship it’s  a love relationship.

Marriage counselors’ say ‘The most successful marriages are those in which the husband regards his spouse as his best friend and vice- versa.’  I agree to this statement, each one have best friends and it’s to the best friend we tell most of our secrets and also tell of the happenings of the day. It gives ones best friend the idea of his/her friend, that today was a good or a bad day and the best friend may try to encourage and boost his /her up. In the same way if the both the husband and wife are in good terms and talk daily of their respective day as to how it went, and how they spent it. Their relationship will grow and will remain happy in their life.

Life

Life

Life is a God given gift to us. It’s not that I’m in this world by chance. But it is God’s plan that I’m here. I’m here for a purpose. And one needs to find it. Our life is a journey. On this journey there are broad, narrow kacha, pacha roads. We try to take the familiar roads and avoid risks in life. May be who knows one of the unfamiliar roads may lead you to your purpose. It’s up to us whether to be in our own comfort zones or to take the risk.

In life we all have our ups and downs but what do we do? Do we encounter the challenges and rise up victorious or do we run away from challenges? Life is temporary on this earth we are not permanent residents one day we have to leave this place. When opportunities come our way, am I an opportunity grabber? Or do I just let the opportunity pass by?

In life once the time is gone it never returns it’s gone forever. We admire people who dare to do something different in life and probably we would say to our self. I wish I too could have done it. In life if we don’t put our whole hearted effort we aren’t going to reach anywhere. So put in your 100% and live life joyfully. Dare to take risks its worth taking them.

Mary, Mother of Jesus and My Mother

When Mary said “yes” to the will of God, she knew that the saviour would be born through her. She didn’t stay at home but went to do a loving thing. She went to stay with Elizabeth and to serve her. When Jesus was born, he was not born in a big hospital but was born in a humble stable. Mary could have asked God why her son was born like this but no, she just accepted the will of God in her life. When Jesus was presented in the temple, Simeon, the holy man was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed, “A sword will pierce through your soul”. This shows that Mary kept the word which she gave God and she accepted all this as the will of God. When Jesus was 12 years as every year they went for the Passover Feast to Jerusalem. As the feast ended they started journeying home but Jesus stayed behind. Mary and Joseph thought that Jesus would be with one of their relatives so they made a day’s journey. Then they started searching for Jesus but they didn’t find Him. So Mary and Joseph went back to Jerusalem. This shows the relationship of Mary and Joseph. We see that Joseph didn’t say a word to Mary. If we would have been in Mary’s place we would have started fighting and arguing. After three days, they found Jesus in the temple. Mary asked him the reason for his behaviour and Jesus replied, “Didn’t you’ll know that I had to be in My Father’s house.” The reply seems hurting but Mary once again kept silent and pondered over the words of her son, Jesus in her heart. Mary must have not kept Jesus sitting as he was the Son of God but surely she would have asked Jesus to lend a helping hand in the chores of the house. And Jesus would have surely obeyed Mother Mary. So here in this we see how Mary guided Jesus in His childhood and surely she will help, guide and protect us.

I’m reminded of an incident from my life, I remember Mother Mary’s protection when I first met with an accident. Once I was cycling and I had to cross a road but without looking to the left or right I banged into a man with his motorbike from the other side. We fell. I fell quite a distance from my cycle but I was not hurt badly. I just got a small wound on my leg, but the man had got a gash on his leg. After this incident I hastened back home and started praying the Rosary. I don’t know how I just started praying the Rosary but at the back of my mind I said “Thank You Mother Mary for saving me and I offer you this Rosary.” I would like to conclude with the words of Don Bosco, “Have devotion to Mary and you will see what miracles are.”
                                                        Mama Mary and Baby Jesus

Did you carry him sometimes
Gently in your arms?
Did you ever sing to Him
The way my mother does?

Did you ever talk to Him?
Did you ever try?
Telling wonders of his hand
O! and did he smile?

Do you think he cares for me
Even when I fall?
Does he understand me now
O! tell me if you know.

Heavenly mother dressed in blue
Teach us how to pray
God was just your little boy
O! tell me what to say.

The Son of Man

                                                            The Son of Man

No title did Our Lord use more often to describe Himself than “the Son of Man”. No one else ever called Him by that title, but He used it of Himself at least 80 times. His existence both eternal and temporal is in it. In His conversation with Nicodemus He indicated that He was God in the form of Man.
The Son of Man referred to His human nature which was in Personal union with His Divine nature, is evidenced from the fact that the first time Our Lord ever referred to Himself as “The Son of man” was when He was recognized by his disciples as the “Son of God”. Christ entered into human existence. He appeared just like a normal human being. His suffering and death were logical consequences of this humiliation. As God, he could not suffer but as a man he could.
Sometimes the title ‘The Son of Man’, is used with reference to His coming on the last day to judge all people; at other times, it referred to His mission to establish the reign of God on earth and to bring forgiveness of sins; but more often it refers to His passion, death and Resurrection. Hidden in it was His mission as Saviour and His humiliation as God in the weakness of human flesh.
The Son of God took another name ‘The Son of Man’ not to deny His divinity but better to affirm the new condition He had taken. He so humbled Himself that he even died a shameful death i.e. on the Cross. The Son of man implied not only humiliation but identification with sinful humankind. Though ‘The Son of man’ expressed His oneness with humanity, He was very careful to note that He was like man in all things except sin.
The human family has its trials, so He sanctified them by living in a family. Labour and work done by the sweat of the brow was humanity’s lot; therefore He, ‘The Son of Man’, became a carpenter though there is no evidence in the Gospel that Our Lord was ever ill, there are many instances where He sickness as if it were His own. Hence, in the performance of a cure, He sometimes ‘sighed’ or ‘groaned’ after looking up to heaven, the source of His power. Human infirmity touched Him so deeply, because deafness, dumbness and leprosy were the effects of sin. As humanity wept He too wept. He made the sorrow of humanity His own, e.g. when Mary was weeping over the death of her brother, Lazarus, Jesus sighed and felt the sorrow as His own.
Finally, the title ‘The Son of Man’ meant that He was representative not of the Jews alone, nor the Samaritans alone but of all humankind. The title proclaimed this fraternity with people. But persons cannot be just brothers unless they have a common Father, and God is not a Father unless He has a Son. To believe in the fraternity without the Fatherhood of God would make people a race of bastards.

Sympathetic love brought Him down from heaven to earth. Christ’s unity with the sinful was due to love He suffered because He loved He put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. God has always been shrouded in mystery. From ages past, human beings have often asked what would God look like? But the question was often dismissed with the reminder that God is “quadosh” – totally other – and hence we can’t even imagine what God must be like. At the time of Moses there was a widespread belief that if ever one saw the face of God he would die. This belief safeguarded the mysteriousness of God.
The Incarnation has changed all that. In the person of Jesus, God has taken on a human nature, a human form, a human face. The gulf between God and person is now bridged. God is no longer quadosh (totally other). He is one like us; one with us. The word became flesh and dwelt among us (Jn 1:14). No longer can human beings complain: “What does God know of my pain and sufferings?” In the person of Jesus, God has had a first hand experience of being a refugee of human, thirst, opposition, rejection, betrayal, suffering and finally even death.
Seen through the eyes of faith, Jesus becomes for us the human face of God!

God-Alpha and Omega

                                                      God-Alpha and Omega

Had I not been in the mind of God
I wouldn’t have been born

Had I not been born in a Christian family
I wouldn’t have believed in Christ

Had I not had a lovely prayerful mother
I guess I wouldn’t have chosen a path to religious life

Had I not had a disciplined father
I wouldn’t have been a disciplined person

Had I not had a loving sister
I wouldn’t have cared for girls

Had there not been friendship
I wouldn’t have any friends around me

Had I not had a loving family
I wouldn’t have understood the meaning of community life

Had there never existed a world
I guess I wouldn’t have seen such a marvel that I see today.

Jesus Heals the Paralytic

                                               Jesus Heals the Paralytic

The paralytic in the Gospel was loved by his people and friends. They loved him enough, that when they found out that Jesus was in his home town, they went to their friend and said, “We want to take you to the teacher.” They had heard about Jesus’ power to heal. The paralytic knew it wouldn’t be that easy. He had hoped so many times for a cure and none ever came. But they coaxed him and pleaded with him, “May be this Rabbi can heal you. Let us take you to him.” Finally, may be more out of fatigue than faith, he allowed them to put him on a mat and lead him to Jesus. Their hearts must have sunk when they saw the crowd. But that didn’t stop them. They did not give up. Two of them climbed on the roof and began to remove the tiles. They carefully lifted their friend and carefully lowered him down in the middle of the crowd next to Jesus. All eyes were on him. When Jesus saw them He was touched by their faith. He was touched by their love for their friend. He was also touched that the paralytic after so many disappointments had allowed himself to hope again, even just a little. And so moved was Jesus that he simply said, “Your sins are forgiven. Rise, pick up your mat and go home.” The man was healed and his friends who were probably still looking down from the roof were filled with joy.
For those of us who are wounded or sick, have fear or are addicted, challenged or depressed, this gospel passage should challenge us to hope and keep on hoping. Sometimes we will have to carry the cross of suffering or illness. At other rimes it may be that God will heal us completely. Whatever the case may be, God loves us. Each and every one of us is surrounded by people who are sick or lonely, or need some kind of healing. Our world is a broken world, and brokenness is all around us. Even within us. None of us can say that we don’t know anyone in need. There are people, who need healing with whom we live, work, meet and encounter on life’s journey.

This gospel should challenge us to ask ourselves: “Do we have enough love to do what those four men did for their friend? Do we have enough faith? When we have obstacles in our path, do we simply give up and go home? This gospel passage presents us with a very beautiful example of ‘hope’.
